Chat with an Illustrator: Myroslava Voloschuk

We're excited about our latest release, Bella the Butterfly Dog Goes to Work, written by Vicki Smith and illustrated by Ukrainian artist Myroslava Voloschuk. Today, we chat with Myroslava to learn more about her.

Myroslava, welcome! You’ve been such a joy to work with, and your art is incredible. Please tell us more about yourself. Where are you from? How did you become an artist?

Hello! Thank you, I also really enjoyed working with you. I'm from Ukraine. I paint oil paintings.

I love to draw from childhood, and I'm happy that I can do what I love!

You have a great command of English. What is your native language?

I speak Russian and Ukrainian and a little English. This book is a great experience for me! I have improved my English a little *Smile.*

What kind of art do you create?

I love flowers! And animals. I am creating an oil painting on canvas. I want my paintings to bring joy and good mood.

Which piece of your own art is your favorite? [Oh my goodness – I just discovered your Etsy shop and fell in love with your lavendar fields.]

I draw everything I love. I want to give joy. I want people to look at my paintings and rejoice. I have a sweet tooth and draw desserts. I love flowers and draw flowers. I never create paintings of what I don't like. I admire the flowers! They are beautiful! Delicate shades and velvet texture. I am happy that I can convey this beauty of God's creation.

You also paint pet portraits. How did you get started with that?

I got a cat! This is a new member of the family and I love her very much :) Pets are very ardent and devoted. Each animal has its own character and I want to show it in my oil paintings.

Have you illustrated other children’s books besides Vicki’s?

I have illustrated books by Ukrainian writers. Bella the Butterfly Dog Goes to Work is my first book to be sold on Amazon. I am very proud of this work! I am also happy to work with other authors if their topic is close to me.

Who is your favorite artist?

I have many favorite artists. Lots of. I admire the work of many contemporary authors and I am close to the themes of the classic Dutch still life.

What/Who inspires you to create?

I am inspired by nature, flowers, smiles of my children

What do you do when you aren’t creating art?

When I do not create my art, I am a mother :) and I am a wife. I have two wonderful children, a boy and a girl. And a loving husband who supports me in my work.

Thanks so much for sharing with us today, Myroslava. I know we have more projects in the works with you and can't wait to share it all with our readers!
